Wiley XWhen picking out glasses for Riding Motorcycles

Well, I can only assume most of you have already been out riding. Especially as I am writing this with my door open to the Store on this beautiful afternoon. So now your thinking of....What do I want to do this year with my bike - Or do you want to get the "bike you've always wanted"? I may not be able to help in this area, but I can make sure you have the appropriate eyewear. Here are a few things to be aware of when picking out a pair of Motorcycle glasses.

Helmets with face shields:

  • Don't get polarized lenses - They enhance vision, but they also enhance the stress marks in the face shield from the material being curved making it difficult to focus.
  • Don't get Transition lenses if you want them to work- The face shield blocks some of the UV rays which allows the lenses to change from light to dark.
  • Watch out for curved frames- Some designs do not work well under the helmets when the temple pieces bow out a lot. Many of the current styles do this.

General thoughts:

  • Always bring your helmet when picking out a pair of glasses. The design of the helmet can affect the fit of the glasses.
  • If you like Dark Sunglasses, do not get Transitions as your only pair of glasses. Transitions are made to be a comfort lens. They do not get as dark as a general pair of sunglasses, Though they have gotten better, Polarized lenses are the best option for light sensitive eyes.
  • Safety lenses, such as the Wiley X brand, are the best for maximum protection. The nice thing about these, you can also use them on the job with the OSHA Z-87.2 certification.

What do you Ride?

The weather is getting better! You will start to see more people outside walking or kids on their bicycles. It is so important to be aware of what is around you while driving, but this becomes more apparent as the weather gets warmer. The kids are out playing, and we are all itching to get outdoors after the winter season. But don't forget, this is also the season for Running, Cycling and Motorcycles. If you see a person running or cycling on the side of the road, they maybe training for a marathon or triathlon. Don't forget while we drive our large SUV's, it is very difficult to see Motorcycles as well. We all enjoy the fresh air, but me must also respect others while doing such! BE AWARE AND DRIVE SAFE!
